P1- Understand the personal attributes valued by employers
In this report, I will explain what attributes of an individual are valued by employers and explain why that is.
What are personal attributes?
Personal attributes are good qualities or characteristics in a person by which help gain trust from other people, as they are being recognised by them. They can be permanent and essential in what they’re doing.
 Examples of various attributes:
ü  Motivation- having a strong reason to act or achieve something and be determined. This quality is very important as the employee is open-minded and positive which will help him to do more work and meet the deadlines. The employers really appreciate that, as the employee is motivated and makes more profit for the company.

ü  Leadership qualities- being able to guide a team is also needed in a business. A leader needs to be confident, reliable, responsible and have good communication skills so every member of a team would contribute and be treated with respect and understanding. They are role models for others and new employees, they need to be trustworthy so the employer can have faith in that person who leads a department and make as little mistakes as possible.

ü  Respect- this attribute helps everyone feel worthy, as it shows concern, kindness and sympathy. It is an important part of a business, so everything would run smoothly and no argument would be held at the organisation. The more arguments and misunderstanding in the business, the worse the opinion of it becomes, which would decrease the amount of customers they would get and work done.

ü  Dependability- this means being worthy of trust and someone who is a reliable person. The employers need this type of person so they can leave different department in their care. An employee who is dependable will be a part of the development of the company.

ü  Punctuality-this quality consists of being on scheduled time. This is also necessary so the business can start at a time it’s supposed to and you can go on with your work. When you’re on time, you are showing respect to your co-workers and prove that you can be trustworthy. Moreover, you are seen as professional from others point of view and are more appreciated.

ü  Problem solving- the ability to solve problems efficiently is essential in business, especially when an organisation is trying to make profit, employees need to be able to recognise the barriers that will come on their path and get rid of them as quickly as possible so the company won’t lose out on it.

ü  Determination- it’s simply not giving up. It is an important attribute for an employee, as it shows to the employer that you’re serious about what you’re doing and whatever task you will be given, you will do it. It also shows responsibility.

ü  Independent workers- working by yourself is also helpful, it means you don’t need supervision all the time which will give the employer more time to do his own work then look after the employee.

ü  Time management- good time management helps the employee meet deadlines and be punctual. It shows that the employee can prioritize between projects and daily tasks, by ranking them between importance. His performance will improve, which mean an increase in productivity in a workplace.

ü  Team working- being able to work in a group is very efficient as it helps do tasks quickly. Furthermore it helps to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each member of staff, which is also supportive, as you will know who would need more help, and who you can ask for support when you don’t know something.

ü  Written, numerical and verbal skills- it is significant for an employee to have these skills; it helps with communication between customers and co-workers. When an employee has good written skills, it means they are accurate at grammar, spelling and punctuation. It’s effective when writing emails, letters or reports. Written skills can be also used when notifying others about meetings or projects, which saves time as people in business are very busy and these notes are self-explanatory. When an employee has good numerical skills that means he’s able to respond to tasks that require mathematical skills. This skill is recognised by the employers even more now, because today’s technology grows rapidly and it needs numeracy skills more within the workplace. Verbal skills are important for employee who interact with others a lot, and are more acknowledged when a person is comfortable with public speaking. These skills reflect positively on a company’s image overall.

ü  Planning and organisational skills- employees must have general organisation skills that will help them recognise what they need to do and how much time they should spend on each task to get it done.
In conclusion, all of the personal attributes are necessary, although some of them could be more valuable than the rest.
